Gauja NP Administration visits environmental game competition

The environmental game competition Get to know your environment! of the Riga region has ended in March. This years competition theme was Wetlands, which was initiated by the Gauja NP Administration employees. It was chosen because the recently the Estonia – Latvia cross border cooperation programme project was started on the same topic – wetlands – and one of the foreseen activities is to promote the idea of environmental games generated by young people in both countries. This idea is quite popular in Latvia but there are still no this kind of traditions in Estonian schools.

In Latvia this competition contest has been organized for 7th time and its main organizer in the Riga region is Salaspils Secondary school biology teacher Ms Diāna Šķēle. Ms Anda Andrušaite and Ms Meldra Langenfelde from Administration together with volunteers – Marta Rodrigues from Portugal and Pauline Dedise from France participated in the game evaluation process and were allowed to determine together with jury the best game of this competition.

In this contest in total 17 games were presented developed by children and young people of different age. All presented games were creative and interesting, but the major rewards won three of them – 1st place took the game Cenas mire time discoverer, second place – In search of team spirit andlong live bog!, while third place took game Save the wetlands of Latvia. Special prize was given to young people who made the game Long mire trail. Remarkably, the first two winners will also participate in the competition with participants from all Latvia that will take place in Riga in April.

Over the past seven years, the pupils from the Riga region have prepared in total 125 different environmental games.
