2009-06-02 Events in Gauja National Park
 In the end of May Gauja National Park Administration employees and Gauja NP Junior Rangers organised the celebration of “European Day of Parks” and participated in the annual festival of the Sigulda Region.
“European Day of Parks”
This year the “European Day of Parks” took place in the surroundings of the Gūtmaņa cave with the aim to introduce visitors with new Gauja NP Visitor Centre.
Each year the Europarc Federation determines particular theme of “European Day of Parks”. This year the theme was "Youth - the future of the parks." During the event everyone was invited to participate in several activities as well as to visit the new Visitor Centre. Workshops were connected to plants typical to Latvian meadows at that time of the year as well as everyone could make a drawing about theme - "The Gauja National Park in the next 100 years". Later from the drawings in the Visitor Centre was made an exhibition.
The tradition to celebrate “European Day of Parks” was established in 1999 by the Europarc Federation with the aim to promote biodiversity and to increase public support for activities of European protected areas. Gauja NP Administration also started to celebrate this day in 1999. First “European Day of Parks” in Gauja NP was organized near to the historical monument – Cross Gauja ferry by Līgatne.
Gauja NP participates in the annual festival of the Sigulda Region
Gauja NP Administration is located in Sigulda town since its foundation in 1973. Each year Sigulda Region celebrates its “birthday”. Gauja NP Administration has a tradition to participate in this celebration with several educational workshops.
Festival visitors had an opportunity to take part in these workshops - explore a variety of trees and various artifacts of nature in magnifying glasses, put together a picture of well-known Sigulda Region landscapes, animals and plants, as well as to play an exciting table game, that guides around the map of the territory of Gauja NP.
